My husband took me here as a surprise. The exterior is very low-key. The interior is just ok. Where they ABSOLUTELY SHINE is the food and the service. We started out with a few drinks. I had the Oh S#!t, and my husband had the Blackberry Margarita. Both were great. We also shared a peach tea/ lemonade mix. OH MY GOSH, it was delicious!!!!! I ordered the fish and grits with a side of collards(without telling my husband what I ordered) he ordered fish and grits with shrimp, so we didn't get to try different things. He also ordered the collard green egg rolls. Everything came out HOT!!!!! This is important to my husband because he WILL send it back if it's lukewarm. Overall, I need to go back so I can experience other stuff, definitely worth the trip
I am so glad I was introduced to this gem in Plano. There was a DJ that played great music, food was delicious, and our server Shajuna was friendly (and fun to talk to)!! We started with the collard green egg rolls. Amazing! Melt in your mouth brisket, tangy perfectly seasoned greens and, surprise, cream cheese went together perfectly. This was a portent of things to come! Everything was perfectly seasoned and delicious. I can recommend the fried catfish, cabbage, and fried okra also. Everything is made fresh to order. I highly recommend SGK (and Shajuna) if you’re looking for down home meal and vibe.
This place is delicious! The flavors are out of this world—everything is perfectly seasoned, even the kids' meals. We loved the fish, meatloaf, and cheeseburger, and the sides were just as amazing. We ordered twice in one weekend because we couldn’t get enough. Highly recommend this spot for top-tier Southern food!
The food was really good! The vibe was definitely there. I will definitely be back! Service was a little slow on drinks and no one told us their name. But overall not a bad experience I had the BIG HOMIE (SGK FRIED CHICKEN SANDWICH) with no tomato and my side was cabbage. For my drink it was a Peach alcoholic drink. I can’t remember which 1 but it was good!
The food was delicious. The music was on point. Real catfish, it was fried perfect and crispy. The collard greens egg rolls were off the chain. The waitress from Paris Tx, was great. We met Chef (owner), she was very down to earth. You get your money with at the Plano location.
Great family restaurant. The green egg rolls are sooooo good, they stole the show. The cabbage was so flavorful! My friend loved the fried catfish and it was super fresh!
First time customer here and Southern Gourmet Kitchen didn’t disappoint! Stopped by today for brunch the server brought out complimentary mini cornbread muffins they were fresh, sweet and buttery so very good. Ordered “The cat in the hat” (pictured) they pair fish and grits with a gumbo type rue, cheese and green onions on top of the grits the grits were cooked just right with the right consistency. Fish seasoned perfectly and fried to perfection! Also ordered a strawberry lemonade which was also very good. My server Ashley was very attentive working the bar and she suggested the fish & grits. Everything was so good and just the right portion. Recommend to stop by on a Sunday bunch hours they have a live DJ playing old/new school R&B to keep u entertained. Overall great food and experience
The company I work for had them out in their food truck. And I will say this....5 years here and 50 food trucks I have never cleaned a plate out before. I got the catfish that came with yams, greens, and mac n cheese. The greens had the best seasoning with a spice level that was perfect. Yams had the sweetness I wish I could replicate at home with great portion size. Now the mac n cheese was definitely creamy with pull apart texture I love. Catfish was fried to perfection not to oily and not to firm. Overall I would give this 20 out of 10. I will be making the drive to the restaurant to get the complete feel of all the food. But the greens! Whatever you do try the greens!
